Shared Writing

Room 12 came to visit. Everybody had a number - we had to find the person from Room 12 with the same number. That person was our writing buddy for the day.
We wrote stories together about a little frog who never gave up. It was great fun.

Our Little Gardens

Everyone has planted a little garden. We will watch them grow.

When the Circus Comes to Town

This week our shared book was called 'When the Circus Comes to Town'. We made Big Top tents with a circus ring inside. We drew an audience and added some circus acts.
We also designed fun faces for our clown masks. We used our new crayons and paint pens to decorate the masks, bow ties and hats.

Co-operative Construction

Our 'new' Mason and a construction crew worked together to make this duplo masterpiece. Mason took a photo before we had to pack it up again. Great teamwork!

Video Stars

This week we been trialling an app that turns us into video stars. We want to record our class song but first we just tried out the different effects. We liked the rainbow effect best. Take a look....

Keep an eye out - we will record our class song for you soon.

Did you see Ethan and Mason our two new Room 17 kids? They look like this....

Baby Salmon

We went to visit Mr Ogston in Room 18. He showed us his baby salmon and told us all about them. He said the salmon can spend about five years out at sea and then find their way back to where they were born all by themselves. We don't think we could find our way back to where we were born!

We found out that half means 2 equal pieces or groups.

Developmental

Each Friday we have our Developmental Programme 9-10 am. Each classroom/teacher has a theme for the day e.g. Creative, Maths and Science, Sensory, Construction, Sports etc. The children are able to work in any area. It is a great opportunity for self directed learning and working with children from other classes. At our last school assemble we played this movie showing all the things we do and learn.

Calendar Art

Are you looking for our masterpieces? Scroll down to find them.

Xylophones and Xrays

Not many things start with X but we managed to keep busy during X week.
We made colourful paper xylophones and played real xylophones (actually they were glockenspiels because they had metal keys not wood)...

..and we learned about how xrays work and matched xrays with photos. Bethany was very good at sorting these xrays!

V is for Very busy!

This week was 'V' week. We learned about the differences between fruit and vegetables. We found out that fruit have seeds -  that makes tomato a fruit!
We made vegetable soup, a volcano and folded amazing flowers for a vase.
We read a story about a boy called Oliver that didn't like veges. He only wanted to eat chips until he picked vegetables from his Grandfather's garden and found out how good they are.
Watch us read our stories about Oliver.

Starring: James, Oliver, Megan, Evan, Ruby, Bethany and Sarah.

Starring:Te Aroha, Lucas, Ella, Jessica, Chloe, Wiremu, Emilia, Deaming, Mason, Anaru and Ashton

Our classroom was filled with the delicious smell of soup. You can almost smell it from here.....

A very big thank you to Bethany's mum who not only made us buns but rescued us when the hot plate we had arranged for cooking on didn't get delivered. She raced home and brought in bench top elements to cook with. On top of that she stayed to help us make the soup! Ka Pai.
(We also tried using a slow cooker - true to its name it was too slow - but that did mean we had soup on Friday as well for those who wanted it.)

V is for Volcano
We made volcanoes with vinegar and baking soda. We tested white vinegar and brown vinegar. See which one was best.

We coloured beautiful vases and then made pretty paper flowers to put in them.

...and... we even found time to paint some scenery for our musical. We are working on learning all our words, songs and dances.

Stella, the puppy, found Ashton who has just started in Room 17. Can you find Ashton in the slideshow?

Did you find Ashton? Here is a clue....

This week we threaded colourful noodles onto wool to make noodle necklaces. It took a lot of concentration to thread some of the trickier noodle types. The hard work was worth it - the necklaces looked great.

Comparing Heights

We have begun our maths topic of Measurement. We estimated which children in our class were taller and then checked by comparing heights.
Next Wiremu and Oliver had to order everyone in one long line from shortest to tallest. It was very hard to do when we didn't stay standing tall and straight! At last they had us all sorted according to size.

Friday Lunch

Mr Walker had us all dancing on the back field - he had an outside disco after we ate lunch. What fun!

All About 'i'

This week we made an iceberg and floated it. There was more ice under the water than above - just like a real iceberg in Antartica.
We also made iceblocks and ate them. Thanks, Mrs Lock for taking the photos of us tasting them.

  3. string
  4. a tail
Our buddies came to help us design and make our kites. Look at them fly.
